About us
Local HVAC Service Built Around How South Bay Homes Actually Run
PerfectFix HVAC Services repairs, installs, and maintains heating and cooling systems for homes across San Jose and the surrounding South Bay. The Santa Clara Valley's climate shapes much of what we see: dry summers that keep air conditioners working hard, especially in inland and southern parts of the valley, and mild, damp winters when furnaces and heat pumps cycle on and off for months. Steady, moderate use like this lets wear build up quietly, so regular maintenance can catch many problems before they leave you without heat or cooling. When we visit, we look at the whole system, not just the part that stopped working. We tell you what we found, lay out your options, and give you our honest recommendation, including when a repair is the smarter choice. If you're thinking about switching to a heat pump, we'll explain how local Air District rules and current incentives may affect your timing, without pressuring you to replace equipment that still runs well.

Do Bay Area air quality rules mean I have to replace my gas furnace?
No. The Bay Area Air District appliance rules don't require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced.
What changes for gas furnaces in 2029?
Under Bay Area Air District Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when a furnace is replaced after that date. If your furnace is aging, it's worth thinking about your options before it fails.
Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?
No. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for new installations after that date.
Are there local incentives for heat pumps?
Bay Area homeowners can check BayREN and their local clean energy provider for current heat pump and electrification incentives. Amounts and availability change by funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before including it in a quote.
Is a heat pump a good fit for the San Jose climate?
The Santa Clara Valley has dry summers and mild, damp winters, so a heat pump can handle both cooling and heating in one system. Homes in hotter inland and southern parts of the valley should have equipment sized for summer cooling loads, which we evaluate during an estimate.
How often should my HVAC system be serviced?
Most homes benefit from a maintenance visit before the cooling season and another before the heating season. Regular service lets us clean key parts, check for wear, and catch small problems before they turn into breakdowns.
When does a ductless mini-split make sense?
Mini-splits work well for homes without ductwork, room additions, converted garages, or rooms that stay too hot or cold. They heat and cool individual zones, so you can control comfort room by room.
Should I wait to replace my water heater because of the 2027 rule?
The zero-NOx date for small water heaters under Rule 9-6 was set for 2027, and the Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it. Check the current rule before planning a water heater replacement.
